A native of Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in performing arts as she grew up. She was a contestant in singing contests she performed in the school's theater program as well as sang in choirs. When she moved to Los Angeles, she studied acting at the University of Southern California and was Belle the Princess on the stage in Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland for a year and one quarter. She quit college to find an agent to represent her talents to audition for film and TV. Butler was a guest on the TV shows CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. The actress landed part-time roles in the film A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser, and in the Syfy TV Horror film Flu Bird Horror (2008). The web series Luke 11-17, helmed by Don Stark, featured her as a character. Butler has also appeared in a frequent part on I Love Vampires, a web serial. Butler won the leading role in the 2010 thriller about rape and revenge I Spit on Your Grave. This remake is a re-make from 1978 of the beloved classic of the same name. While initially disliking the movie's sexual violence and nakedness, she was eventually convinced by the storyline's feminist tone and the strong characters. Butler played Jennifer Hills who, following being brutally attacked inside a cabin in the forest and then gang-raped, seeks revenge on the perpetrators. Steven R. Monroe, the director of this film released it on October 8th the 8th of October, 2010. Butler began shooting The Stranger Within, a psychological drama The Stranger Within alongside Estella Warren and William Baldwin in Mallorca Spain beginning in November of 2011. The film was also shot in Copenhagen Denmark as well as New York City. In June 2012, she teamed up with Michael Biehn in the Los Angeles production of Treachery. Butler also co-starred alongside Michael Welch in 2013's horror film The Demented.
